The food and ambience are both wonderful here. Their paella and tapas are fantastic and some of the best I've had outside of Spain. They also make paella negra which I've never seen anywhere in the States. I highly recommend it! The chef is creative, accommodating, and expertly-skilled. His chocolate creme brulee is silky and will leave you speechless. If you have the great pleasure of having Richard as your waiter, you will find yourself in great hands as his knowledge of the menu is superb and his attentiveness is beyond measure. If you don't know what you want, he will deftly steer you in the right direction.
This quaint hotel made us feel at home. Room and bathroom was very clean and modern, staff was friendly and professional. It has a fireplace, coffeemaker, etc. The room is just the right size for a couple. It’s just a few minutes walk to the Fisherman’s Wharf and other restaurants and gas stops. Denny’s and Krua Thai Restaurant is across the street. Parking is right in front of the room. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend this hotel for anyone staying in Monterey.
We decided to stay in Monterey on our trip down the Pacific Coast. We were delighted with how cozy and homey our room was at this property. Our dinner was absolutely delicious and service was impeccable. Would certainly return if we return to the area.
A large selection of yummy tapas and, at happy hour prices, this place can't be beat. Wine or beer at $6 and two prices levels for tapas -- $5 or $10. Examples of $5 choices include stuffed portabella mushroom or olives/almonds. Examples of $10 choices include cheese/meat platter, or lamb chops. All well-prepared. The outside patio makes for a very relaxing atmosphere.
Always a pleasure staying at Casa Munras. The staff is friendly and eager to help with questions related to points of interest and places to eat. Esteban’s just off the main lobby serves a good breakfast and a Spanish paella at dinner time that is awesome. Dining on their patio is really pleasant. The rooms are spacious and well maintained. King bed with large screen LCD and desk workspace suited my needs perfectly. The washroom had a walk-in shower as well as a good sized tub and vanity. Overall the furnishing and design of the room is warm and the Spanish influence is nicely carried out. There is an outdoor pool and onsite spa. The location is also close to other eateries and shops. This was my 3rd stay at Casa Munras and it was as enjoyable as my first.
This Hotel is well kept. The roses, flowers and grounds are beautiful. The bed and pillows are so comfortable. Great for your dogs. Esteban restaurant is a great place to eat especially if you don't feel like going out. The convenience of walking everywhere is great with lots of restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops and brewery places.
Would definitely stay here again the room was finished to a very high standard very comfortably and ideal place to relax after exploring the wonderful Monterey area. Unfortunately didn't get the chance to sample the restaurant next visit. Very friendly and helpful staff
Romantic and Dog-Friendly Escape in the heart of town
This is an intimate little spot that met every need we had. A large dog-friendly lawn, a dog-friendly patio AND dog menu at their on-sit restaurant - fantastic amenities! The human food there was also divine. The staff was caring and friendly, and our room was cozy with a comfortable bed. Thank you, Casa Munras for giving us a home away from home during our weekend in Monterey!
My mother is from Chile, but her parents are Spanish and Basque. I’ve read up on Esteban’s restaurant, and felt this would be a taste of the homeland. I took mom for the Tapas Happy Hour, and it was a delight! The entire menu is tailored to the authentic Spanish palate. But there’s more. They even had a few dishes from other Spanish speaking places, like a Peruvian empanada. We sat mom and I in a nice corner. The ambiance is like rustic Granada or south coast of Spain. Comfortable areas inside, and a large patio outside with a glass/gas fireplace. I think it’s really nice. Mom had ordered the anchovy tapas, and I had serrano ham and melted cheese. Tapas are served like extremely nice antipasti. Bread, and wine. They were excellent. The bread was home made, and the anchovies were fresh, and not overwhelming at all. With layers of tomatoes and ají underneath, my mom was absolutely delighted. I almost didn’t get a bite. I had the sangria red, and later a flavorful margarita. We were talking for at least an hour. When we thought about leaving we were visited by the chef himself! He took the time to come see people at the tables. That’s classy in a small setting. He got to our table, and was so kind. He gave us some of his story, and we shared ours back. He grew up in Spain, and everything he made was like a taste of the coast and country. He’s even got a special day for paella and another for wine. It was very nice to get to know him and appreciate the care behind the meal. After we had paid and I was gathering up my churros and manjar for dessert, the chef came back to the table and gave us a huge piece of the home made bread with a special orange and rosemary marmalade. It was just so thoughtful. My mom coveted the bread. I loved seeing her so happy. I didn’t ask for more than a slice. She says it tastes like her childhood. We are absolutely going to this wonderful place EVERY time to come to Monterey. That’s a promise. I hope you have a magical time in the little Spanish corner like we did. There’s nothing like it unless you go all the way to Spain yourself a lot. Definitely a new favorite.
We chose Esteban for their beautiful outdoor dining area. We were very pleased with the service. CJ, was our server and gave us wonderful recommendations on a couple of the vegetarian dishes, and answered any questions we had on the menu. Anna was the bartender on duty that evening and made my husband the best boss Anna Margarita he has ever had. I highly recommend Esteban. My family and I felt very safe there. Everybody was practicing social distancing and wearing their face coverings. I love the disposable menus. We are a local family and have always had a wonderful experience at Esteban. Anna, Always makes our visit extra special.
